Have you decided on your New Year’s resolutions yet? If not, why not help make a difference in a vulnerable child's life by becoming a volunteer mentor at The Island?
Our charity exists to provide mentoring services for vulnerable children and young people who require space and time to improve their overall wellbeing so that they can take positive steps forward.
This mentoring can build resilience, confidence and self-esteem in children and young people who may not have a positive adult role model in their life. They may live chaotic lives, witnessing domestic violence, abuse and substance misuse, or be growing up neglected or experiencing poverty despite their parent(s)/carer(s) being in .
By volunteering with us, we'll offer you free training with ongoing support, supervision and professional development. Volunteers are from all walks of life and no previous qualifications or experience is needed. There are also opportunities for achieving professional accreditation.
This mentoring service has proven benefits for the children and young people who use its services.
One youngster who was mentored by a volunteer said: “Without The Island I would definitely be ‘off the rails’, involved in crime, anti-social behaviour... possibly dead. Thanks to The Island my life has been transformed.”
