Providing
mentoring services for vulnerable children and young people living in
York, Roxanne Hall is aiming to raise £300 for local children’s charity
The Island by walking the Yorkshire three peaks.
The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards supporting The Island’s one-to-one mentoring service which has high success rates in transforming the mental, emotional and social wellbeing of isolated children living in York.
Mentoring Services Manager, Nigel Poulton, says “All of us here at The Island have great admiration for Roxanne undertaking this walk to raise much needed funds to help more vulnerable children and young people in York. We do wish her all the very best and our sincere thanks not only to Roxanne but to all those generously sponsoring her in this amazingly compassionate fundraising walk.”
Since becoming a registered charity in 2008, The Island has enhanced the quality of life of over 2,500 vulnerable York children, not just through one-to-one mentoring, but also through school-based mentoring, youth club work as well as girl and boy groups. Many ex-mentees have gone onto excelling in the school environment, pursuing higher education, successfully obtaining and completing apprenticeships as well as setting up their own businesses. One ex-mentee who still works closely with The Island today, says “without The Island I would definitely be ‘off the rails’ involved in crime, anti-social behaviour… possibly dead. Thanks to The Island my life has been transformed” for the long-term.
Roxanne says “Wow! I have never done any fundraising before and I am so looking forward to it. Everyone says it is going to be super difficult, so I am practising by going on some long walks with my Dad. Wish me luck, I think I’m going to need it!!”
