The Island is home to a small foodbank which can be accessed by our mentees and their families who are struggling to make ends meet.

We stock a wide range of nutritionally balanced food for Island families to make easy meals and in recent months we have opened a small dental, baby, toiletries and period bank.

We believe no one should live in poverty and that everyone deserves to live a happy and healthy life. The Island foodbank was formed in 2020 and has since become a lifeline for many vulnerable families living in York.

“The Island’s foodbank has been a lifesaver for our family. The high rents in York have led to my husband and I struggling to make ends meet. We both work and have made significant cutbacks, but it still isn’t enough.

I felt so embarrassed asking The Island to use their foodbank, but we’re so grateful to them as it has enabled us to feed our family.”
