Local business Parlormade Scone House is to mark National Cream Tea Day (Friday 26 June) by providing a donation from each sale made on Friday 26 June to our children's charity which provides mentoring services for vulnerable children and young people living in York.
The money raised from the National Cream Tea fundraiser will go towards supporting our one-to-one mentoring service which has high success rates in transforming the mental, emotional and social wellbeing of isolated children living in York.
Christopher and Pong, owners of Parlormade Scone House say “National Cream Tea Day is an opportunity for us to showcase our popular cream tea delivery service. Throughout lockdown we have been privileged and humbled to visit a wide range of homes, to meet and speak with amazing people; some isolated, some vulnerable and most being missed and loved from afar by family and friends. We have listened to emotional stories and we have come into contact with amazing charities and organisations working tirelessly to make a direct difference to people’s lives. The Island’s valuable work supporting and mentoring young people in York will be needed now more than ever, we wish to help in a small way.”
Since becoming a registered charity in 2008, The Island has enhanced the quality of life of over 3,000 vulnerable York children, not just through one-to-one mentoring, but also through school-based mentoring, youth club work as well as girl and boy groups. Many ex-mentees have gone on to excel in school, pursuing higher education, successfully obtaining and completing apprenticeships as well assetting up their own businesses. One ex-mentee, who still works closely with The Island today, says “without The Island I would definitely be ‘off the rails, involved in crime, anti-social behaviour… possibly dead. Thanks to The Island my life has been transformed for the long-term.”
Nigel Poulton, CEO at The Island ends, “We are really grateful for Christopher’s and Pong’s support of our charity – business fundraisers are of huge importance to The Island as it enables us to guarantee mentoring services to the most vulnerable of York children. Our services are currently on hold due to the ongoing pandemic, however, once it is safe to resume our mentoring programmes, we will continue with them. On behalf of everyone here at The Island, we would like to thank Christopher, Pong and their team for their kindness towards our charity during this uncertain time.”
