Michelle joined The Island in 2021 as our Administrative Assistant and has recently become our Mentoring Administration Assistant. She plays a key role in assisting the team with the smooth running of the mentoring programmes. We borrowed five minutes of Michelle's time to find out more about her and her work here at The Island.
My job title is Mentoring Administration Assistant. I am here to provide administrative support to the Island Team with the referrals, volunteer recruitment and training process. My aim is to support other team members and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the clerical side of The Island.
I would like to make a difference and help to enhance the lives of the young people that we work with.
It is unique in the support that it offers and seeing our young people thrive is so rewarding. It is also a fast-growing charity that I love being part of as we grow.
I think mentoring services are so important to young people as it gives them the support to be more confident, improve self-esteem as well as increases children's emotional wellbeing.
I find one of the ways that work for me as a parent is to calmly listen and do not dismiss their worries, however small they may seem to a parent/carer they may feel huge to the young person and discussing what is on their mind and not dismissing it is usually a huge help to show that you understand and care about their feelings.
