Vantage Toyota York
has raised over £2,800 (£800 over their target) for local children’s charity The
Island by cycling 50-miles from York to Whitby in eight hours.
Tim Swindin, James McGlashan, Andrew Hunt, Andy Moss, Mark Taylor and Siobhan Riley took part in the cycling fundraiser alongside Vantage Toyota York’s charity organiser and support drivers, Steve Butler & Keith Nix. They set off from their office on Clifton Moor Gate just after 8am and reached their destination just before 4pm where they celebrated their achievement by having an ice cream on the beach
Mentoring Services Manager, Nigel Poulton, says “We are hugely
appreciative for everything that VMG are doing to support our children’s
charity. It costs £15 per child per week to access a one to one mentoring
session with the support of a fully-trained mentor. £2,800 means that we can
guarantee 186 sessions which is going to be hugely beneficial to enhance their
mental, emotional and social wellbeing.”
Since becoming a registered charity in 2008, The Island has enhanced the quality of life of over 2,500 vulnerable York children, not just through one-to-one mentoring, but also through school-based mentoring, youth club work as well as girl and boy groups. Many ex-mentees have gone onto excelling in the school environment, pursuing higher education, successfully obtaining and completing apprenticeships as well as setting up their own businesses.
Vantage Motor Group’s Regional Director, Glen Ramskill says “Our York team wanted to support a local charity and after looking at a number of really good local causes, we selected The Island. We are all delighted that our £2,000 target has been smashed with over £2,800 already donated on our Just Giving page. Six members of the Vantage team took part in the event, with two support vehicle drivers helping on the day.
Vantage Toyota York’s charity organiser, Steve Butler says “I was delighted that our Finance Director and Managers from our central services team also took part in the bike ride and each member of the team beat their own personal goals. We stocked up the support vehicles with supplies such as Moose Juice and Flapjack for the journey. I would also like to thank our friends at Autohorn, Vensons, Assured, Car Benefit Solutions, Richard Austin Alloys, ECM Logistics, Auto Cosmetics, DVLC and CBM Australia for their large donations to our fundraising appeal.“
