WorkwithYork
and WorkwithSchools, recruitment specialists in York, are aiming to raise £750
for local children’s charity The Island through running the York 10k on Sunday 4
August .
The money that Claire Leaver, Katy Clarke and Jane Freakes raise from their 10k run will go towards supporting The Island’s one-to-one mentoring service which has high success rates in transforming the mental, emotional and social wellbeing of isolated children living in York.
Mentoring Services Manager, Nigel Poulton, says
“On behalf of The Island we are just
so grateful for this support from WorkwithYork and WorkwithSchools as we seek
to meet the very urgent needs across the city for children and young people.
With the funds raised through this event we shall be able to support these
children, unlock their potential and open up new opportunities for a more
positive future. Thank you to all those who so kindly and generously running -
we really appreciate it!”
Since
becoming a registered charity in 2008, The Island has enhanced the quality of
life of over 2,500 vulnerable York children, not just through one-to-one
mentoring, but also through school-based mentoring, youth club work as well as
girl and boy groups. Many ex-mentees have gone onto excelling in the school
environment, pursuing higher education, successfully obtaining and completing
apprenticeships as well as setting up their own businesses. One ex-mentee who
still works closely with The Island today, says “without The Island I would
definitely be ‘off the rails’ involved in crime, anti-social behaviour…
possibly dead. Thanks to The Island my life has been transformed”
for the
long-term.
Having
chosen The Island as their charity of the Year in April, WorkwithYork helps
clients to recruit staff across many different industries and sectors whilst
WorkwithSchools, focuses on education helping nurseries, schools and colleges
recruit exceptional supply staff for temporary assignments.
Claire
Leaver, Head of Marketing at WorkwithYork and WorkwithSchools says
“We’re delighted to be supporting the Island this year, they’re a fantastic charity who make a huge difference to the lives of young people in our local community. Our team are only too willing to get involved in any way they can, raising vital funds for the cause and as some of our team are keen runners, the 10k was the perfect opportunity.”
